A dedicated public official, he works diligently to keep providing Laredo District I basic services and opportunities for a better quality of life.  Now serving his first term on the Laredo City Council, Garza loves his district, this city and he has a vision for its future.

Mayor Pro Tempore Mike Garza is a dedicated family man who is committed to strong family values. Working for the United Independent School District, Garza is a big believer in the power of education – he believes that education makes better communities.

Representing the largest City district, Mayor Pro Tempore Mike Garza is a strong advocate for education, crime prevention, quality development, reducing government waste and the environment.

To my fellow constituents:

Thank you for the opportunity of serving you as your City Council District I representative. Having your support and trust is of the upmost importance to me.  I will work to meet and exceed the expectations that you have on me and my performance as your Mayor Pro Tempore.

One day, I hope to be able to look back and feel that I made a difference - that I helped make not only District I but Laredo a better place to live in.   As former first lady and civic leader Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” I believe in the power of dreams, but even more, I believe in the power of making our dreams come true.  I truly believe that our city government, with the support of its constituents, can make a real difference. Together we can make Laredo a safe, clean and pleasant community to live in.

My commitment to you is that I will keep on fighting for effective public policies, quality cost-effective city services, solutions to make our community safer, keep our economy growing, and ensure that every child in Laredo has the best opportunity to learn.
