At the start of tonight’s City Council meeting, City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas and Members of the Laredo City Council recognized several young Laredo students for their various accomplishments.

Photo Recognitions at Council Meeting
Before the start of the City Council meeting, City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas welcomed students from United ISD’s Alexander High School’s Healthcare Occupation Students Association, to proclaim the week HOSA Week in Laredo. The students have a week-long of activities designed to help encourage them to continue studying and pursue a career in the healthcare profession.

WHY: To mark the official start of the Cuatro Vientos (State Loop 20
extension) construction project
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The Cuatro Vientos project, otherwise known as the State Loop 20 extension project, will be constructed by J. C. Evans Construction Company, L.P. of Leander, Texas at a cost of $33.8 million.
Funding for this project includes $31.5 million in Economic Stimulus (ARRA) funding with the remainder coming from Coordinated Border Infrastructure funds allocated for use in Webb County.
The Cuatro Vientos project includes the construction of a new seven mile
roadway that extends from State Highway 359 near the State Loop 20
intersection, South to Mangana-Hein Road. The roadway when completed will provide a much needed relief route to US 83 in south Laredo.
U.S., state and local elected officials and guests are expected to be in
attendance.
Mayor, City Council Recognize One Incredible Woman
Mayor Raul G. Salinas and Laredo City Council recognized Mildred Judy Reyna, this afternoon, on the occasion of her 100th birthday. Addressing a full house filled with family and City of Laredo employees, Mayor Salinas read a litany of accomplishments and organizations which Ms. Reyna had made an impact here in Laredo. After receiving a standing ovation, Ms. Reyna addressed the crowd, but personally thanked the City Council for their hard work and improvements to Laredo, especially her neighborhood. While not a native Laredoan, Ms. Reyna also commented that Laredo was an ideal city to live, especially for the elderly, because of the community and culture which treasured and takes for the elderly.
