At the start of tonight’s City Council meeting, City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas and Members of the Laredo City Council recognized several young Laredo students for their various accomplishments. 

 Both the 7th and 8th grade Trautmann Middle School Shorthorns football teams were recognized for their outstanding 2009 season achievements, as both teams went undefeated.

 

 Another outstanding local football recognized were the Mary Help of Christians Schools 4th grade Stallions flag football team for winning their division football championship.

 

 C.M. MacDonnel Elementary School, administrators and students, thanks to the support of IBC Bank and Dennis Nixon, were honored for creating a micro-community, MacDonnelville, a mini-city home to institutions and organizations that are vital for the survival and progress of a real world community.

 

 The 2009-2010 City of Laredo Sister Cities Youth Committee gave a presentation, introducing each member and committing themselves to the high standards of local and global community involvement, as representatives of not only their respective schools, but also, the City of Laredo.

 

 Viridiana Paramo and Rick Martinez, HEB Chair and Co-Chair, respectively, invited Mayor Salinas and the Laredo City Council, as well as the entire community of Laredo to this weekend’s 21st Annual Feast of Sharing Thanksgiving dinner, taking place at the Laredo Civic Center on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, from 11 AM to 3 PM.  The event, which originated in Laredo, has now grown to over 32 communities.
