City of Laredo Council District 1
Prior to the start of tonight’s City Council meeting, City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas proclaimed the week National Neighborworks Week in Laredo, praising the work of the Laredo-Webb NHS, to help local families achieve, or hold on, their American dream of owning a home.
Pastor Adria Acevedo, of Dunamis Ministries, prayed for City leaders to make wise decisions and for our community to continue to grow and prosper.
The City of Laredo Budget Division of the Finance Department was recognized for the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 2009 budget, an award the division has received for the past 17 years in a row.
The Cigarroa High School Baseball Team was recognized for the its 2009-2010 season accomplishments.
Sames Motor Company was recognized for the dealership’s 100th Anniversary, where the community is invited to participate in its celebration later this year when 100 lucky Laredoans will get a chance to win a new 2010 Ford Fiesta.
Maria Harrison, City of Laredo Parks & Leisure Services Dept. Recreation Center Supervisor was recognized for her outstanding efforts with the City of Laredo Weed and Seed Program in two of the City’s recreation centers, where approximately 60 students graduate from the program, including the Drug Education for Youth (DEFY) initiative.
Edgar Martinez, a 2010 Cigarroa High School graduate was recognized for his 13 years of perfect attendance, which earned him an honor from Laredo’s own Texas Senator Judith Zaffirini. Edgar credits his parents for “making” him go to school; later, he found that he liked it. Another amazing fact is that his three brothers also have perfect attendance.
